How to Add a Logo to a QR Code

A step-by-step guide to embedding your brand logo into a QR code that still scans perfectly.

A branded QR code with your logo builds trust and recognition. Customers are more likely to scan a code that looks professional and familiar. The challenge? Adding a logo without breaking the QR code's ability to scan. This guide walks you through it — step by step.

1

Choose your QR code generator

Pick a generator that supports logo embedding. QRForge lets you upload a logo directly into the QR code center — no design software needed. Free for basic codes, Pro for logo embedding and high-res downloads.

2

Enter your destination URL or text

Paste the link you want the QR code to point to. This could be a website, a PDF menu, a Google Maps location, a Wi-Fi network, or any text up to 2,953 characters.

3

Upload your logo

Click the logo upload button and select a PNG, JPG, or SVG file from your device. For best results, use a square image with a transparent background (PNG or SVG). Aim for at least 200×200 pixels.

4

Adjust the logo size

Your logo should cover no more than 20–25% of the QR code area. Most generators auto-size it, but if yours doesn't, shrink the logo manually. Too large and the code won't scan; too small and the branding is lost.

5

Set error correction to High (H)

QR codes use error correction levels (L, M, Q, H). When you add a logo, the logo covers part of the code — so you need High error correction to keep the code scannable. QRForge handles this automatically.

6

Pick your brand colors

Choose a foreground color for the QR modules and a background color. Keep contrast high — dark on light or light on dark. Avoid colors that are too similar or the code won't scan reliably.

7

Test before you download

Always scan your finished QR code with a phone camera before printing or publishing. Test from different distances and angles. If it doesn't scan, increase error correction or reduce logo size.

8

Download in the right format

For print (business cards, packaging, posters), download SVG or a high-resolution PNG (at least 1000×1000px). For digital use (websites, email, social), PNG is fine. SVG scales without quality loss.

Best practices for logo QR codes

  • Keep your logo under 25% of the total QR code area
  • Use High (H) error correction whenever embedding a logo
  • Maintain strong contrast between foreground and background colors
  • Always include a quiet zone — a blank margin around the code at least 4 modules wide
  • Test on multiple phones before committing to print
  • Use SVG for print to avoid pixelation at large sizes
  • Avoid placing logos on busy or textured backgrounds
